As your next cold storage warehouse project takes shape, early decisions often focus on core factors like temperature requirements and equipment specifications, the foundational elements of a modern refrigerated warehouse design. Yet one factor often determines success long before operations begin: the building envelope and structure.
At KPS Global®, we design and manufacture insulated panel systems resulting in complete solutions that build cold storage enclosures within existing structures. This approach enables faster installation, higher load capacity and greater adaptability whether you are retrofitting, expanding or building new.
Architect and engineering firms are a perfect match to partner with KPS Global for upcoming refrigerated warehouse design projects. Since KPSG is fully custom, we’re able to work alongside firms to build the best custom cold storage enclosures.
Modern Cold Storage
KPS Global provides one of the most complete product portfolios in the industry for cold storage and controlled environments. With five manufacturing locations across the United States, we deliver redundancy, buying power and consistency that reduce supply-chain risks.
The growing demand for large industrial cold storage facilities has driven significant innovation. Building refrigerated warehouses is vital to food security, sustainability and the online grocery market, which is expanding 25% year-over-year. These facilities are being built from the ground up or reimagined within existing spaces, depending on project goals, building loads and available real estate. As demand continues to outpace new warehouse construction, remodeling existing facilities presents a strategic and profitable opportunity. Realizing that value, however, requires solutions that can overcome the structural constraints of existing buildings.
Structural Limitations
Many older warehouses have roof structures that are already at maximum capacity. Adding new loads can be expensive or may require bringing the entire building up to modern code. Our structural insulated panel systems eliminate that issue by carrying the load independently.
Our cam-lock panels form a self-supporting structure within the building itself. We can build without attaching to existing columns or ceilings and without additional steel framing for the building required. This depends on several factors, including the height and length of the box, as well as which specific panels are used. Since the cold storage box can stand alone, building engineers are not needed to reinforce or redesign the existing structure. The result is a faster, lower risk build that avoids the cost and disruption of field retrofits.
Our panels are designed with our in-house engineering team to handle heavy evaporators and other mechanical equipment, providing greater live loads than typical insulated metal panels. This capability reduces stress on the building and allows for larger or more specialized equipment installation.
Panel Offerings and Specifications
KPS Global offers different types of insulated panel systems. Our traditional cam-lock panels are manufactured with polyurethane and provide a simple installation for exact dimensions with choices of:
- Wood frame
- INSULFRAME®
- FUSIONFRAME®
Addressing Flooring and Thermal Break Challenges
Cold storage performance starts from the ground up. Many existing facilities lack proper thermal breaks or have them positioned incorrectly for low-temperature operation. Cutting into concrete to fix these issues adds time, cost and uncertainty.
KPS Global offers prefabricated insulated floors for coolers that create a reliable thermal barrier without concrete work. This improves energy performance, prevents condensation and reduces installation time, helping projects stay on schedule and within budget. For freezers, a concrete insulated slab floor with proper thermal breaks will be necessary.
Meeting Sanitation and Certification Requirements
Clean environments are essential in food storage and pharmaceutical applications, where smooth wall surfaces and hidden electrical components help maintain compliance. KPS Global panels can be manufactured with conduit and junction boxes built directly into the panel. This eliminates exposed wiring or chase walls and creates a seamless interior finish that meets certification and inspection standards.
Because every panel is produced to exact specifications in our factory, installation is faster and more precise than field-cut systems. The result is a clean, durable and compliant environment built to your specifications. NSF and FM certifications are available on request.
Simplifying Interior Construction with INSTAWALL™
Inside warehouses, speed and flexibility are essential in construction. INSTAWALL™ from KPS Global offers a prefabricated solution for interior builds such as offices, restrooms or retail area remodels. This accelerates the construction process by reducing the number of trades needed. Once the panels arrive on site, installation happens in days with minimal on-site crew requirements. This drops labor needs and limits disruption to ongoing operations while maintaining consistent professional quality and look.
Built for the Future
Whether it’s a large industrial warehouse or a multi-zone controlled environment, KPS Global helps customers design facilities that are adaptable, efficient and low risk. Our solutions combine proven engineering with supply chain readiness, reducing unknowns and giving you confidence that your project will be delivered on time and built to last.
If your next refrigerated warehouse project is limited by structure, schedule or existing conditions, contact our team for review. Together, we can create a cold storage solution that fits your operations, budget and long-term performance goals.
