Each year, the RAC Cooling Industry Awards shines a spotlight on the refrigeration and air conditioning industry’s most successful innovations and achievements. KPS Global® is thrilled to announce FUSIONFRAME®, its patented cold storage panel system, has been named a 2019 winner in the following categories: “Refrigeration Product of the Year-Components & Peripherals” and “Refrigeration Innovation of the Year-System/Process/Standalone”.
FUSIONFRAME is a new insulated polyurethane panel frame system for walk-in coolers and freezers that provides four times the R-value, or thermal performance, and has comparable structural performance to wood in span tests.
“FUSIONFRAME can replace traditional wood structural framing and deliver optimal thermal-envelope performance, lower energy usage and utility costs, and a reduced carbon footprint “said CEO Mike Eakins.
James Costanza, Technical Fellow at KPS Global, explains the key to the improved performance of FUSIONFRAME is a method of construction that injects a polyurethane foam insulation jacket around the structural member. The polyurethane is injected with a blowing agent that can form a rigid plastic, but only 3% of the material in the foam insulation is a solid. The other 97% consists of millions of minuscule air bubbles that have the blowing-agent gas inside them. These air bubbles are better able to resist the flow of heat through them when compared to wood. This approach leads to energy savings and life-cycle benefits that eliminate issues with icing and condensation typically seen with wood frame panels.
