The men and women who bravely protect and defend the U.S. are our parents, children, grandparents, friends, neighbors, and coworkers. And once they leave active service, they continue to apply their skills and talents as an integral part of their local communities. KPS Global is proud to be an all-American company doing our part to strengthen communities across our country and serve our fellow citizens. On the occasion of Veterans Day, we want to highlight the incredible veterans we have the privilege to work with every day.
The Origins of Veterans Day
The first Veterans Day was observed on November 11, 1919. Originally called Armistice Day, it marked the first anniversary of the end of World War I. In 1926, the U.S. Congress passed a resolution for an annual observance, and the date became a national holiday in 1938. In 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower officially changed the name of the holiday from Armistice Day to Veterans Day. Unlike Memorial Day, which honors our fallen heroes, Veterans Day provides an opportunity to pay tribute to all American veterans, living or dead, but especially those we live and work with every day.
Veterans Day Observances
The Veterans Day National Ceremony is held each year on November 11th at Arlington National Cemetery. The event begins at 11:00 a.m. with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, then continues with a parade of colors by veterans’ organizations and remarks from dignitaries. The Veterans Day National Committee also selects a number of regional sites for Veterans Day observances each year, including parades, ceremonies, military exhibitions and tributes to distinguished veterans. Of course, many other communities across the country hold their own events, both large and small, to honor our nation’s veterans.
